Choose The Inkjet Printer Labels You Need

All of our material lists include a column indicating if each product is compatible with laser printers or inkjet printers (or both). Some of our inkjet labels can be printed with both laser and inkjet printers. However, if you use an inkjet printer to print a material intended for laser printers only, the ink won't dry properly.

Inkjet printers are less expensive to buy than laser printers and are often used successfully in homes and businesses with low print volumes. For higher print volumes we recommend using a laser printer. While they are more expensive to buy, they offer a much bigger choice of label materials and higher duty cycles.

All the label materials we recommend for inkjet printers have a slightly adsorbent surface (meaning they attract or hold other molecules or particles onto their surface). This helps inkjet inks to dry properly and key into the surface of each label to form a stable image. The materials we supply for laser printers only do not have adsorbent surfaces, which means that inkjet ink will not dry properly on these materials and will smudge.

Most inkjet inks are water-based, which means that the print will smudge if it gets wet or when handled. Laser toner is bonded in place by heat, which makes laser print waterproof and prevents it from smudging when handled.

We often get asked if we supply waterproof inkjet labels. Our MWPP range has the only inkjet material that produces waterproof inkjet print. This product has a special coating, which seals inkjet ink below the label's surface, making the print waterproof.

MWPP has been developed specifically for normal water-based, dye-type inks that are used in most inkjet printers. These printers tend to either have two cartridges (one black and one colour) or four cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow).

Pigment-type ink printers, which are high end machines used to print high resolution graphic designs and photographs (and have ten or more cartridges), will not work with our MWPP material. Pigment ink uses coloured particles, rather than dyes, which are not adsorbed well by our MWPP material.
