Adhesives have two stages; instant adhesion and ultimate adhesion. Instant adhesion occurs during the application of an adhesive material, such as a label; an adhesive instantly adheres to a surface upon contact, with minimum pressure (usually no more than the pressure of its own weight) and contact time.
