Calendered Paper - What is calendared paper?
Definition of CALENDERED PAPER:
A calender is a set of horizontal rolls that either sit at the end of a paper machine or are a separate unit in themselves (super calender). The rolls are usually made of cast iron or steel - although some modern calenders may be made of a variety of plastics and some will alternate hard metal rolls with soft plastic rolls - and are used to apply a combination of heat, pressure, and friction to a paper web in order to increase the smoothness and gloss of its surface, and to produce a more uniform thickness. Calenders can be used with a variety of materials including fabrics and plastics.
