A method of coating; flood coating is when a coat is applied to the full surface of a face material or substrate, leaving no part of the surface exposed. However, where over coating refers to the process of adding a coating to the entire surface of a face material or substrate, flood coating can be used to refer to the process of applying an adhesive (in the construction of a pressure sensitive label), colourant (to produce a coloured material), printing inks (to produce a coloured background), or a protective or decorative coating (to improve the appearance of a substrate, enhance the quality of the print, or to protect a substrate).
