Holding Power - What is holding power?
Definition of HOLDING POWER:
This term refers to the ability of a pressure sensitive label to withstand shear stress; shear stress is a type of stress where the external force that acts on an object or surface is parallel to the surface. In labelling, for example, shear stress occurs when a pressure sensitive label is made to slide across the surface onto which it has been applied. Holding power, therefore, is reliant on both the adhesive strength and cohesive strength of the materials used to create a pressure sensitive label (both the face material and adhesive must maintain a strong bond with the adjacent surface(s) and have the internal strength to resist splitting under stress).
