Checklist For Choosing Labels

Here’s a handy list of a few things to consider when choosing self adhesive labels.

Here at Label Planet, we have a LOT of labels – and a lot of DIFFERENT labels at that. If you’re starting a new project and you need to choose your labels, it can be quite difficult to narrow down your choices when you’re starting from scratch.

The Label Planet Choosing Labels Checklist

• Budget
  Do you have a budget that you need to stick to? Remember that our synthetic materials (polyester and polyethylene) are our most expensive labels; our special adhesives, coloured labels, and special finishes sit in the middle of our price range; and our plain matt white paper labels are our least expensive option. It is also worth noting that we offer price break points – so it might just be worth buying more labels at once, in order to save money in the long run.
• Quantity
  Do you require a particular number of labels? To work out how many sheets you need, simply divide the number of labels you need by the number of labels per sheet. Remember that if you need less than 500 sheets, you will need to choose from our range of stocked items (minimum order quantity of 25 sheets). We pack our stocked labels into packs of 25 sheets and our unstocked labels are packed into boxes of 500 sheets. This means orders of over 500 sheets must be made in multiples of 500, while smaller orders can be made in increments of 25. Again, it may be worth looking at our price break points, to make sure you get the quantity you need at the best possible price.
• Size
  Do you require a particular size of label? Here at Label Planet, all of our labels are on A4 sheets, meaning that the sizes we offer are standard sizes that fit economically onto an A4 sheet. We do not do any bespoke sizes. However, if you do require a specific size that we supply, please note that while our full range of sizes are available in matt white paper labels, we only offer some of these sizes in our special adhesives, special materials, and coloured or special finishes. Remember to check if the size you want is available in other formats, otherwise you will need to choose from our standard matt white paper range only. • Inkjet or Laser
  Do you have an inkjet or a laser printer? Some of our special materials and finishes are compatible with just one type of printer – if you try to use laser labels with an inkjet printer or inkjet labels with a laser printer, the print will not adhere or dry properly, meaning it will smudge or crack. Remember, if you want to print waterproof labels, you will need to use a laser printer (only our MWPP material can produce waterproof inkjet labels).
• Transparent or Waterproof
  Do you need transparent or waterproof labels? If you do, you will need to pick from one of our synthetic materials (polyester or polyethylene).
• Special Adhesive Requirements
  Do you need a special adhesive? We have a range of different adhesives, depending on whether you need a label that is very difficult to peel off or that will stick to an unusual surface (High Tack), that is easily removed (Removable, Super Removable, Removable Coloured, Removable Transparent, Removable Waterproof), or that can be used in freezer conditions (Freezer). We only have the particular combinations of adhesive and materials shown on our website. So, for example, we do not have a freezer adhesive on a polyester material.
• Gloss or Matt
  Is the finish of your labels important? Our labels have either a gloss or a matt finish. If you require a gloss finish, you must choose from our range of gloss labels and if you require a matt finish, you must choose from our range of matt labels.
• Shapes
  Are you happy with a rectangular label or do you want a particular shape? We have circular, oval, and square labels. Remember, SOME of our circular and oval sizes are available in our ranges of coloured, fluorescent, and metallic labels, special adhesives, and special materials, while our squares are available in plain matt white paper or our coloured and fluorescent ranges.
• Colour
  Do you want a coloured label? We have pastel coloured labels, fluorescent labels, and metallic gold and silver.
