Clear Labels In Transparent Materials

All of the materials used to make clear labels need to be transparent. This simply means that they "transmit" light (allow light to travel through the material rather than reflecting off its surface), which allows us to see through the material.

There are different levels of transparency. Truly clear or transparent materials will allow you to see objects beyond. Materials that are only partly transparent and offer a more "fuzzy" view are known as translucent or frosted materials. These materials still transmit light but scatter it in the process.

Our clear labels are not translucent or frosted; they are also not "glass clear". If you apply them onto a solid white or coloured surface, you will be able to see that surface clearly through each label. If you apply them onto glass, however, they will not be 100% clear. This is because the adhesive layer may trap small air bubbles as a label is stuck down, which creates a very slightly frosted appearance.

Transparent materials are really versatile. They are usually made from synthetic materials, like our polyesters, which are both waterproof and durable. They can be supplied in matt or gloss finishes. You can match the surface you are labelling to get a "no label" look (so it blends in with the labelled surface) or you can use contrasting finishes to draw attention to your label.

Clear materials are a simple way to side step the challenge, costs, and time required to accurately colour match existing print work. This means you can add information or designs that blend in seamlessly with existing print.

Transparent labels are most commonly used to add information or designs to existing print, as decorative seals for packaging, or as protective, waterproof covers for non-waterproof print (usually inkjet print). They produce a high quality professional and decorative appearance, which means they are extremely popular for labelling products and packaging - especially on cosmetics and homeware products.
